Spring Teams

Boys        Girls

Boys

Grades 2 and below

The youngest group, grades 2 and below, play on Sunday afternoons.  Each session consists of a short clinic/practice that will include instructional/competitive drills followed by a controlled scrimmage.  The 2nd graders will have a few games and jamborees during the season.

Grades 3/4

Boys in the 3rd and 4th grades will usually play on Sunday afternoons.  Players will often have an additional practice and/or game each week against other teams in Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut.  The team also goes to several jamborees where the kids play against teams from the Northeast.  At this level, the goals are to have fun and introduce the players to controlled game situations.  The emphasis is on sportsmanship, responsibility, learning how to be a “team player” and recognizing the importance of practice and commitment.  Although “winning” is always fun, it is not the major focus at this level. There are no tryouts.

Grades 5/6 and 7/8

Doc's also offers teams for 5th/6th and the 7th/8th grade players.  Although the schedule varies from week to week, these teams typically play two or three times a week.  This usually includes one or two practices/games in the evenings at around 6:30pm and one or two practices/games on weekends.  They also play in a number of major tournaments in the Tri-State area.  The teams play against other youth teams in the Hudson Valley League, as well as additional teams from New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island.  The goals of these teams is to continue to extend basic skills into team play.  Learning the game and good sportsmanship remains the primary objective at all levels, although as the players get older the play gets more competitive.

Girls

The Girls League is comprised of girls in grades 2 and below, grades 3 & 4, grades 5 & 6 and grades 7 and 8.  The  younger groups are structured with more emphasis on fundamentals first, leading to team play.  The older girls focus on basic skills but will move at a quicker pace toward game situations.  Conditioning and competitive drills will be part of the program structure.

All girls in grades 3 and 4 will have travel games.  The goals are to have fun and introduce the players to game situations.  The emphasis is on sportsmanship, responsibility, learning how to be a “team player” and recognizing the importance of practice and commitment. Although “winning” is always fun, it is not our primary focus.

The older girls are expected to play in travel games as well as attend practices.  Games will be scheduled against teams from Long Island, Connecticut, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey, as well as local tournaments.   At this level, more emphasis will be put on fielding a competitive team, but the primary emphasis remains on sportsmanship, responsibility, learning how to be a “team player” and recognizing the importance of practice and commitment.
